I Drop My Drawers

When I die and go to Heaven, I fully expect to have to change flights in Dallas. Hopefully I will be traveling light, because I would also expect my luggage to be delivered to the Pearly Gates the next day.

I’m a traveler. I’ve got a jillion frequent flyer points, but not enough on any one airline to get me out of town. I’ve got a passport with stitched in extra pages and more ink designs than the forearm of inmate number BR549 in the Big Mac, our state prison. I’ve worn out luggage, walking shoes and patience. I’ve eaten great food, “interesting” food and food I didn’t recognize- and sometimes that was all on the same flight!

People think that since I travel for a living, I must always be on vacation. My job? I am a Tour Director. I plan, promote and escort people on their vacations, ya know, a Group Tour Leader. I do love my choice of career and I have learned a few things along the way- about people, places and packing.

St. Augustine is quoted “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” I was slow getting my start to ‘read’. Growing up as a farmer’s daughter in Delaware County didn’t afford many exotic vacations, like the kind that included an overnight stay somewhere other than Grandmaw’s.

But I’m making up for it with some ‘speed reading’ these last few years. Hopefully you will join me as I share with you some stories, from funny to fantastic, from awful to amazing as I travel the world with friends. I will give you some travel advice and maybe peak your interest in more stamped pages in your passport.

My most popular travel tip? I take clothes on my trip that I don’t want and are headed for the trash. After wearing them on the trip, I throw them away. This gives me more room in my suitcase to bring home treasures. Many times I’m able to help local people by leaving those things behind. Make sure you put them in the trashcan and, if you are concerned, leave a note that you meant to discard them. But don’t just leave them out on the bed because coming home to a package of dirty undies and well-worn tennis shoes shipped C.O.D. won’t make you feel too clever! I’ve been traveling and doing this trick for years.

I’m Good to Go! and in my upcoming articles, I’d like to tell you about places I’ve dropped my drawers….
